Advice on choosing a transporter and preparing to travel

Check that your transporter has an operating licence, and if a UK transporter check that they are DEFRA approved. A T1 authorisation denotes that the transporter may undertake a journey of up to 8 hours. A T2 Authorisation denotes that they may transport for longer distances. All horse transporters registered on Find Horse Transport must provide us with their Operators License and DEFRA authorisation.

Horses are carried at the owners risk. If your horse is not covered for transit, discuss this with your transporter who may be able to arrange insurance for you. If your horse is not insured you must inform your transporter.

For international horse transport allow sufficient time for documentation to be completed.

If your horse has not been loaded before, or is a difficult loader, you should advise your transporter who will allow more time.

Make sure that you give your transporter accurate addresses for both collection and delivery of your horse. It is also important to tell your transporter if there is sufficient access for the vehicle.
